Hi! I am Andrew Astarita and I have a deteriorating disease called Polycystic Kidney Disease or PKD. It is an inherited disorder in which numerous clusters of cysts develop in the kidneys. These cysts can grow very large and many people with this condition eventually have kidney failure.
In my case, the disease has progressed to Stage 5 Kidney Failure and I’m in need of a transplant ASAP. The wait for a deceased donor kidney can be more than 5 years so I am actively pursuing a living kidney donor. Kidneys from living donors can last twice as long as from a deceased donor.
As one can imagine, facing a kidney transplant is extremely taxing physically, emotionally, and financially. While I have wonderful support from family and friends, I am in need of money to help pay for my transplant. The funds would not only help pay for the surgery, but the very expensive anti-rejection medication I will be on for the rest of my life. I will also need to cover any possible living donor’s expenses, if I am fortunate enough to have one.
So, you see, I don’t only need a living kidney donor, but also funds to help pay for my life saving surgery.
Medical insurance will not cover all of my expenses. I have monthly health insurance premiums, yearly deductibles, copays and yearly out-of-pocket expenses to meet – it all adds up very fast!
There would be no way of paying all of the medical bills, medication and living donor expenses without causing my family great hardship. I have to ask for your financial help to ease this burden. Your donations will not only help with my medical expenses, but help my family through these very stressful times.
I have a small family made up of my strong and supportive wife of 17 years, Heather, and our precious, bright, sweet 9 year old daughter. It may be small, but it’s full of love! They are the reason I fight every day to get and be able to afford a much needed Kidney Transplant.
