Amy's Uganda Outreach Trip 2018

As you may know I have recently started a new journey in my college career. It has been and eye opening and inspiring new adventure in my life. I have met amazing new people and discovered things about myself that I didn’t know existed. This past fall semester I changed my major to Communication studies and Health communications as a dual major. I have found a new love for helping others and I feel this area of study will help lead me down the right path.
Along with this major change and new personal discovery, I have also been blessed to join a team of people that will be traveling to Uganda for a month this summer in June. We will be working alongside a nonprofit organization called FOYA Uganda. This amazing organization works to improve literacy, education, health and wellness, gender equality, and community engagement. It provides opportunities for young adolescent that they never would have imaged.
While I am there I will be working alongside my team to build libraries and hygiene hubs. We will work with children in the local schools to help educate them on new ways to learn, as well as better ways to stay clean and healthy. We have also selected 60 girls, 20 from 3 different and diverse schools. We have asked them to write three personal narratives, a past, present and future story on how their lives have changed over the course of the year. Once we receive these stories we will have them published so these girls will know their voices are being heard.
I am working hard to pay for and raise money for this trip on my own. I have set aside all of my remaining high school graduation money, and have taken two part time jobs on campus to save as much as I can. As well as applying for two research grants through my university. The trip will cost a total of $3500.00 which includes a very expensive airline ticket to get me to Uganda. We will be staying in a private home and keeping expenses to a bare minimum.
The experiences I will gain from this trip will be life changing. I hope to be able to bring back some of those experiences to be able to help others understand the importance of encouraging, and loving others. I hope that you as well, feel the inspiration to love and help others and would consider donating to help me begin this new path in my life. The donations will be used to help fund my expenses for the trip and EVERY dollar over my basic needs will be directly donated to FOYA Uganda.
