A Safe House for Survivors

Human Trafficking is an appalling reality, often thought to happen mostly outside of the US, in developing countries. However, right here in the Boston area, young women are exploited for their bodies and stripped of their dignity, with few options to escape the system. Forced or coerced into dangerous situations, these women need not only advocates to help extract them from their situation, but safety and whole person care as they begin a new life. Amirah works with survivors of human trafficking in and around Boston, creating a safe haven and community for young women who need restoration.
This campaign seeks to raise $55,000 for a down payment on a safe house for survivors of human trafficking. The need for such housing became clear through Amirah's outreach work in and around Boston, where women would learn how to extract themselves from dangerous situations and were left looking for a place to go.
Please consider a one-time donation to help us purchase the safe house that has been rented for the last year and whose availability is currently in jeopardy. This house, lovingly renovated by an army of volunteers, served as home for 12 women in 2013 - 2014. Owning the house will provide greater stability, help us acquire an asset, and reduce monthly operating costs, since the mortagage payment will be lower than the current rent.
We need to continue the great work of this past year!
Amirah’s safe home opened in October 2013. After four months of care, our first resident began living on her own and supporting herself with a job of her choice. This resident went from exploitation to independence; she received dental care, art and equine therapy, life skills training and a whole lot of love and friendship from staff, volunteers and fellow residents. Her story represents several accomplishments:
Amirah has trained over 250 service providers
Amirah has served 55 survivors through our Breaking Free educational support groups
Amirah has partnered with 75 community partners and 45 professional service providers
Amirah was honored to be called a “national benchmark program” by the Boston-based Homeland Security Investigations Victim Assistance Coordinator.
We need to raise $55,000 for a down payment by December 30th in order to purchase this safe house and gain stability in our continued efforts to serve survivors of human trafficking.
