Back to Dilley

Hey guys, it's Prathiba and Amanda here. As you all know, the Trump Administration has really gone after immigrants and immigrant rights. This April, we plan to go back to an immigration detention center which holds women and children in Texas as volunteer attorneys. In order to do this, we need your help!

In November 2015 and December 2016, we volunteered for a week at the South Texas Family Detention Center in Dilley, Texas. While in Texas we represented detained women and children seeking asylum. Most of the families detained were refugees fleeing severe violence in their home country and experiencing horrendous conditions while detained here in the US.

We volunteered through the CARA Pro Bono Project (CARA). This project is operated solely through volunteer participation. Without volunteers from across the country, most of the families detained would be without legal representation and could likely be deported.

Our goal is to raise $5,500.00 to cover our travel expenses for up to two trips and any contribution will help! If we exceed our goal, we will donate the funds to CARA to fund other volunteers.

Thanks to all of your generosity last year, we were able to represent and assist dozens of women and children. Prathiba published a blog describing the conditions in the detention center on our last trip. Amanda was even interviewed  about our trip to Dilley on NPR's, The Take away.

Thank you again for all of your support!
