Operation: Get Alora to USC for Summer

Welcome to my page! My name is Alora Estrada and I am a Junior in High School. I am ecstatic to have been accepted to the USC Future Physicians Summer program for 2014! I need help in raising money for my tuition, room, and board for this once in a lifetime opportunity that will assist me in achieveing my dream of becoming a doctor. My desire to become a physician stems from my volunteer work at a local hospital and a non-profit healthcare agency but mostly my need to understand my family's history of diabetes and heart disease. 

 For instance, the most pivotal moment of my life  was when my great grandmother passed away from a stroke in the summer of my freshmen year of high school. From the moment of her passing, I often wondered if this tragedy could have been prevented. Through my experience in losing a loved one and supporting my family members with their health related issues, I have made it my responsibility to learn all that I can and provide guidance to those in my family and in my community. This medical program will provide me with pre-med college level courses, such as gross anatomy and biology, to enhance my understanding of how medicine effects the body. The opportunity to learn so many things about medicine has made me eager and hopeful to understand why my family is prone to certain diseases. Ultimately, the goal I have for myself is to help others and my journey can start with your help.
