Allison's Surgery Fund

Donation protected

After many months of suffering, my mother, Allison Gillespie, was diagnosed with Hyperparathyroidism, a somewhat uncommon condition.

Learn about Hyperparathyroidism HERE.

The symptoms are:
* Fragile bones that easily fracture
* Kidney Stones
* Tiring easily, constant weakness
* Depression or forgetfulness
* Mental distress or mood swings
* Deep bone and joint pain
* Frequent complaints of illness with no apparent cause
* Nausea or loss of appetite

Hyperparathyroidism is a treatable condition and can only be cured with surgery. Rather than the traditional surgery-- which leaves a large "Frankenstein" style cut across the base of the throat and has a much longer recovery period -- she has opted to have the minimally invasive, far more effective surgery known as MIRP (Minimally-Invasive Radioguided Parathyroidectomy). This is out-patient surgery, costs a third of traditional surgery, and only leaves a one-inch scar on the throat.

Surgery has been approved and is scheduled for September 15, 2017, but $4300 is needed before the surgery can be performed.  This money will be used for the insurance deductible, co-pay, and out of pocket expenses related to the surgery, hotel and travel. The procedure will be at Dekalb Medical Center in Decatur, GA. The surgery date has been moved up to September 13! PLEASE HELP SOON!

8/25/17 UPDATE:  With the donations coming in and a wonderful person in the hospital finance department, we were able to negotiate a lower pre-payment for the hospital fee. Yeah! This brings the amount needed down to $3200. So attainable! Excitement is building!

For the past 12 months, there have been several discussions about her healthcare. My mom, Allison, is one of many people who have insurance, but the deductible is so high, that she almost can't afford to use it. She would NEVER ask for your help, but I am! She's always been there for others, volunteers when needed- even to do the most difficult of tasks. She is always there when someone needs help; friends, family,  co-workers and many organizations. Today she needs your help to get this surgery.  I'm asking on her behalf, because she's too humble to ask for herself. If you don't feel comfortable donating through this site, please contact me directly for an alternative.

My mom, Allison Gillespie, is losing her quality of life as each day goes by. She's losing her strength, her appetite, her ability to play with her grandkids, even to work. We're watching her infectious joy of life seeping away. All I'm asking for, is help with the initial cost of this surgery.  Once covered, the hospital will allow us to set up a payment plan for whatever is not covered by insurance. Please help us give my mom her life back.

To all her friends, family and colleagues, I sincerely thank you with all of my heart!
