The heartbreaking reality is that Allen Kent, our father/friend/colleague/classmate, is terminally ill and quickly declining both mentally and physically.
Allen is living in Mexico and is too sick to fly back to the US for medical care. Shortly after retiring in Puerto Vallarta, he contracted a very aggressive bacterial infection that has caused abscesses in his liver, lung and colon. While the infection has been stabilized with antibiotics, Allen is also suffering from a very serious condition called pleural effusion (liquid on his lung) as well as dementia and a severely limited ability to communicate.
Allen is able to cover approximately 50% of his medical expenses and the family is doing our best to meet the balance however, without medical insurance, expenses for his recent hospitalizations, surgeries and home health care have quickly mounted to an overwhelming level. He has been recently moved to a nursing home where he can receive 24 hour care.
We anticipate needing approximately $25,000 over the next 4-6 months to cover unmet medical expenses. Donations or ongoing monthly contributions, in any amount, are welcomed and would help tremendously.
