My name is Alexis and I am 16 years old. I began dancing at the age of 2. Dancing is my passion! My dream has always been to attend Joffrey Ballet School in New York. After years of hard work and dedication from myself, my family, and my dance instructors I have been accepted into the Jazz Trainee Program at Joffrey Ballet School in New York City!!!
This is truly a once-in-a-life time opportunity. Only about 50 students are admitted each year, and I am humbled and blessed to be counted as one of them. The cost for tuition for the year will be $14,000. Room and board is an additional $12,000. My program will include rigorous training daily in Ballet Technique, Modern, Contemporary, Improvisation, and Theatre; there will be lectures in Dance History, Music, Anatomy and Kinesiology, and Nutrition. On top of my dance studies I will also have to focus and continue my high school education. While moving to New York and being in their program is beyond my wildest dreams, the cost is extraordinary for my family. I have been awarded a $4000 dollar scholarship from Joffrey for my dance classes. We are still applying for other tuition assistance. I have to make a decision soon, though, and since I do not want my family to make any more sacrifices, I am doing what I can to help out.
I was born to dance. I can't remember a moment in my life where I didn't hear music and just start to move. Dance lets me express myself and my feelings. I love being able to speak to people through my dancing. I have a passion and I am driven to follow my dreams. Joffrey is a dream for me. I want the best dance education and to work with the best instructors out there. I aspire to one day live in New York City and dance in a professional company. I want to share my love and devotion with others bringing them the joy of dance.
However as much as I desire and long to go, I will not be able to if I cannot pay for my tuition and living expenses.
