<div>I'm fundraising for my husband, Alexander, who fell from a ladder over 16 feet high while trimming our pecan tree in June 2020.

<div>Not only did he suffer a traumatic fall and injury, he developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type II (CRPS II), and hasn't been able to walk, work, or live his normal life since then.
</div>

<div>On that scary day, he landed directly on the calcaneus bone in his left heel, which was crushed like an eggshell. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery.
</div>

<div>They installed 10 screws and a metal plate to repair the broken bones, but he developed a rare nerve disease called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type II, also referred to as Causalgia.
</div>

<div>There is no cure for CRPS and it is on the rare disease registry.
</div>

<div>Like you, neither of us had ever heard of CRPS.

<div>People living with CRPS have pain that is much greater than normal even after the original injury has healed. Symptoms include changes in skin color, temperature, and/or swelling on the arm or leg below the injury site. CRPS symptoms may also change over time including the type of pain, skin color, and temperature changes.
</div>

<div>Since my sweet Alexander was diagnosed, he has received countless infusions, surgeries, nerve blocks, and other interventions - none of which have been successful. He now has an intrathecal pain pump that delivers medicine directly into his spine throughout the day.
</div>

<div>He even considered amputation, but that could actually cause the CRPS to spread throughout his body regardless of removing the painful limb.
</div>

<div>Now, he needs another invasive procedure to test a modular stimulator that is implanted and connected to his spine in an effort to disrupt the pain signals resulting from the neurological dysfunction of his system.
</div>

</div>
<div>Some of you may not know this, but Alexander is from Norway, and this injury has prevented him from traveling since June 2020. Because of this, he has also been unable to visit his children and family back home. In fact, he became a U.S. citizen during Covid, sitting in a wheelchair, in pain, and smiling nonetheless
</div>

<div>Our hope is with this further intervention, Alexander will be able to decrease his constant pain by at least 50%. If it works, he might be able to put enough weight on his left foot to learn to walk again on his own.
