IRC - Alex's Nongsa Challenge

Donation protected
In just under two weeks, I’ll take part in my first ever cycling competition, the Indonesian Nongsa Challenge 2017 (http://bit.ly/2uV1Qpz). My motivation for tackling the hills, the heat, the distance is not simply to see whether I can take on the physical challenge, but to support a cause I feel so passionate about - the International Rescue Committee (CharityNavigator Review: http://bit.ly/2hpgZs7 ), an organization that responds to humanitarian disasters, including helping refugees around the world find a better life. In donating the funds, I hope to do my small part in enabling the International Rescue Committee to help refugee families gain control of their future.

This is a cause I can certainly relate to on a very personal level. It is because of organizations such as the IRC (read more on www.rescue.org ), my family was able to receive the support after emigrating from Soviet Union in 1989 and as we made our way to eventually settlling down in the United States.

The day for this request is also not a coincidence - 11 years ago today I walked in with Michael Sassine to the 7th floor of Al Thuraya Tower in Media City, Dubai into the offices of Oliver Wyman. Three offices later I hang up my hat at Mercer and join the ranks of alumni of Marsh and McLennan Companies (MMC).

In my time at MMC, I’ve had the pleasure of Making Meaningful Connections with Colleagues and Clients who have both inspired and challenged me, making this, above all, a fun journey.

The literal journey, as you can see in the map above, as far west as as Sierra Leone and as far east as Japan, with work in 36 additional countries (though some remotely), has allowed me to see the need for organizations such as the IRC. Marsh and McLennan Companies have a strong tradition and ethos of making the world a better place, something I have had the fortune of seeing first hand as a participant in a number of CSR initiatives throughout the years. Inspired by this commitment,  I am undertaking this ride for IRC in honor of my 11 years at MMC with a goal of raising $1100, and of course contributing not just with blood, sweat and (hopefully not too many) tears, but financially as well. I hope you’ll join me in Making a Meaningful Contribution and supporting the IRC mission. (You are, naturally welcome to join me on the bike ride too - registrations are still open !)
