Albert's Life Care Plan

Donation protected
In the middle of the night in mid October, we got a call that has forever changed our lives and many others. There was an accident that involved Albert Laubert, my brother, and he had been seriously injured. One senseless act of violence and he was knocked to the ground. When he hit the ground, he wouldn't wake up or respond. Albert remained unresponsive and fell Into a coma. He had so much brain swelling that they couldn't operate for weeks because the damage was so extreme. As we waited for Albert to become stable, the injured brain  areas was dying. We were terrified because we were losing the Albert we all knew and loved.

An emergency brain surgery had to be preformed in order to save his life. The doctors had to remove so much of his brain that they said even if he woke up, he would never be the same. They said he would probably not remember any of his friends and family. The doctors said he would probably never be able to work again, that he would have a very little or a very changed personality and if he did woke up, he wouldn't be the Albert we all knew anymore.

Weeks went by and he remained in a coma. Finally when the doctors felt he was stable enough, they decided to bring him out of the coma. When this happened, things seemed to head down hill. Albert started having seizures and getting violently sick. We thought we were losing him.

A few days past and Albert's eyes opened. God had just performed one of His many miracles. This was the first sign of hope we had in over a month. Slowly he started to pull out of his coma. He started moving and trying to talk. Albert had difficulty talking because he had a trachea in. He also had difficulty moving his left side and his left eye couldn't follow where he was looking.

Over the next few weeks Albert fought very hard and started talking and moving both sides. We had many ups and downs in the next couple of weeks including a very large and concerning bedsore. Despite all of Albert's setbacks, he continued to progressed rapidly and he was moved to Rusk Rehabilitation Center within a few weeks. Albert was back to making jokes and walking (well trying). He could even remember some things from his life before the accident. This was truly a miracle we were witnessing.

When we had started to give up hope, God showed up and saved Albert. After months of rehabilitation and Albert working so very hard, he was released. Albert is now living with his sister and her family. He is still improving and his sister and family are taking amazing care of him. Albert's bedsore is healing and he is much more comfortable and relaxed at home.

Unfortunately due to circumstances, Albert has no medical insurance to assist with his medications, therapy, doctors visits and his life care. We have been unable to provide for Alberts needs like we should and like we so desperately want to. We have been paying out of pocket for his medicine, bills, and all of his needs.

He isn't getting the physical therapy like he needs and his progress is starting to reverse. He is having a difficult time. We found out this week that part of this is due to fluid building up on his brain again. Albert will have another surgery to help permanently relieve the fluid buildup. This is another part of Albert's journey and his road to recovery.

We have an incredible new Albert. He's fun to talk to, loves playing games especially word searches and we all love being with him so much. We hope that you get to enjoy his company very soon as well. Albert will have a few days in the hospital for recovery after the upcoming surgery and then he'll be back at home.

As Albert's family and his Conservators, we want to take care of him as best as we can. Albert requires 24 hour care and to accomplish this his sister has taken a leave of absence from her job so that she can be by his side.

Unfortunately one medication alone is $600 a month. That is only one of the many medicines he takes daily.  He's still on a feeding tube and has to have a lot of food supplements because of his continued weight loss. There are so many other expenses that are being incurred as well.

We are asking you to open your hearts and help us provide for Albert's care. All proceeds will go to Albert's estate to pay for his medical costs and his life care plan. We ask that you share this page too as he needs as much support and love as he can get through this process.

Please continue to pray for everyone's lives that have been affected by this tragic event.

We want to thank each and every one of you for all the support and love we have received through all of this.
