Múinteoir Aislinn goes to Uganda

Donation protected
Hi guys,

I am very excited to be volunteering in Uganda this summer with the fantastic organisation - Nurture Africa. I will be traveling to Uganda at the end of June with a group of Irish teachers to share our experiences and teaching methods in Ugandan schools. For three weeks I will volunteer as a teacher in a class size of 100 upwards and teach the subjects English, Science, Art, Maths, & Music.

Not only will I have the opportunity to teach, but I will also get the opportunity to volunteer in the other Nurture Africa projects that will be running in Uganda at that time. These projects include the following;

Community First Aid Workshops
Facilitating workshops for school children and staff with the goal of enabling individuals to act promptly and correctly should accidents happen at home or in school.

Building Projects
Help local builders with the building of a structure that will benefit the community such as libraries and youth resource centers,

Community Home Visits
Work alongside community workers by visiting families of those on the HIV Healthcare Project. These visits happen to ensure that guardians and children are adhering to their medication and at nutrition, healthcare and living conditions are at the required standard to improve their health status.

Community Sustainability
Assist in the training of community members by giving them the skills they need to help themselves rather than wait for hand-outs. This training is provided to the guardians of children in the HIV Community and the Enabke Education Projects. They will learn how to generate an income, and are also given a micro-finance loan to help their families become self-sufficient and better able to support the vulnerable or HIV infected child.

Literacy and Library Sessions
Providing over 8000 children with access to library materials from Nurture Africa’s three libraries. This gives children the chance to experience appropriate reading materials and improve their English comprehension and literacy levels.

Educational Talks
Regular meetings with the Heads of Nurture Africa throughout the placement.

As you can see it will be a fantastic opportunity for me to contribute my skills and knowledge, and provide the Ugandan children and their community with educational experiences.

In order to keep the fantastic work of Nurture Africa going, all volunteers are asked to meet a fundraising target which covers the cost of the pre-trip training, the three week programme itself, and the relevant food, accommodation, security and injections.

I have some fundraising activities organised which will hopefully help me get to my target or very close to it. However for family and friends who won’t have the chance to support me in these upcoming events, I would be very grateful of any contribution you could make through this GoFundMe page. Be it €1 or €10 it will help me hugely to achieve my target.

By donating you are helping Nurture Africa to continue these fantastic projects within a community where they are very much needed.

By helping me make a difference, you are making a difference too.

Thank you so much,
Aislinn.
