"I WISH FOR A NEW EAR" Aidan

Our son Aidan was born without his left ear. He has a condition called Micotia Atresia. Because of this condition he has a difficult time locating sounds. His ability to locate the source of a sound is directly related to his loss of hearing. Microtia is the most common major congenital anomaly of the external ear but is rare enough that most parents usually have never encountered it. Because of the prominent location of the ears, any deformity is visible. Atresia is the absence of a canal and an ear drum and this prevents sound from traveling to his inner ear. Our goal is to get him the surgeries he needs to have hearing in both ears.
We have taken every step available to provide him with the most recent advancements in technology to assist him in hearing in his left ear. He wears a BAHA (Bone Anchored Hearing Aid) but it is only a temporary treatment for a much more severe condition. We hope to be able to give him what most kids enjoy from birth, the ability to hear normally. While most of us experience life in a very comfortable way, he struggles to hear even with his BAHA.
There are several doctors who have pioneered surgeries that can change Aidan’s life forever. With advances in medical technology and the understanding of 3D reconstruction, Aidan will have the opportunity to hear what everyone else does. As one would imagine, due to the specialized skills required for such a reconstruction, these procedures are very costly. There are only a few pediatric reconstructive surgeons who perform these surgeries. With your help we hope to give Aidan the boost he needs not only with hearing, but in his confidence to wear sunglasses, hats and be seen as an equal by his peers.
