Adding a Cork through Adoption

Donation protected
Greetings from Cali, Colombia, South America! We are the Cork family and we want to share our story with you. We are embarking on a new and radical adventure and we are requesting support from our friends, family, and kindred spirits to walk with us, join us in prayer, and support us financially in this season.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with our story, we love to highlight that we are high school sweet hearts from Minot, North Dakota, who married eighteen years ago. God gave us a wonderful, long awaited four-year-old son, Wellington, who came into our life to teach us lessons of unconditional love, patience, faith, and joy. We have been serving as missionaries in Cali, Colombia for three years now, and feel it has become home to us. Daily we are learning to eat, drink, breathe, and speak the culture we live in through adventures, language mishaps, ministry work, and friendships. It was in these moments of assimilating and evaluation of our lives, that we felt a new call to bring another child into our family.

As we began to pray about adoption, we learned of a special eleven-year-old boy, whom we feel will be our son. We have learned that he loves to help out young children; he is tall for his age and full of energy. He is athletic and likes all kinds of sports, probably the reason for his big appetite. It is our prayer that we will be united before his 12th birthday this fall. We are anticipating the many lessons raising a second child will bring, like acceptance, trust, increased faith, and healing. We know lessons beyond our current understanding will also come. Wellington
offers joyful prayers about his new brother every night and at almost every meal. He is so excited to share his toys and bedroom, saying he will sleep on the bottom bunk and his big brother can sleep on the top. God is growing a love in our hearts that is building much excitement and anticipation for the day we welcome him in person into our family. Nightly, we ask as a family to prepare our new son’s heart for what God has arranged, as this day can’t happen until a month before the adoption is final when he meets us the first time through a photo album.
Perseverance has been a constant during our journey. When we decided to adopt in June of 2013, we learned Colombia had just closed the acceptance of foreign adoption applications with high priority children being the only exception. God put a sister-in-Christ named Sara in our path who knew how to navigate the systems having already adopted two children from Colombia. She revealed to us our new son in faith, as adoption of children eight years or older is considered high priority. We scoured the list of approved agencies to find one with experience assisting US citizens living outside the country. We were blessed; we found Adoption by Shepherd Care, who has a passion to unite families and the experience we needed.

Our mission work is self-funded as we personally raise support for our ministry and living expenses. God has blessed us in enlightening ways and always meets our needs. With each faithful step, He has given us an even stronger foundation as we climb closer to what He wants for us. Our feet have left firm ground as we launched ourselves, once again, into the realm of belief. We are landing on the other side in obedience to the most significant leap of faith we have taken. From the beginning, our call to adopt required us to believe God will take care of everything in this process. We think we are now at the height of the leap with sending the last of our reserve funds to begin the adoption process.

In sharing our needs with those around us, we hope your heart has been stirred. We are asking for your generosity to help cover the costs in bringing our son into our family as we continue to serve in ministry. We also ask that you please pass this along to others in hopes this story of our leap of faith will encourage them to become an important part of bringing a much-loved Colombian boy into his forever family.
