Mi nombre es Aurora Farías, tengo 24 años, nací con una condición llamada Artrogriposis Múltiple Congénita, para quienes no estén familiarizados con esta condición, es una enfermedad rara que afecta las articulaciones, limitando severamente la movilidad y flexibilidad de mis extremidades. Desde que tengo memoria, he tenido que adaptarme a un mundo que no siempre está diseñado para personas como yo. A pesar de las dificultades, he logrado muchas cosas que me dijeron que jamás podría alcanzar. Algo tan simple como poder caminar fue todo un reto.

<div>Cada día me enfrento a los obstáculos que esta condición me presenta, y lo hago con la mayor determinación y perseverancia posible.

<div>Uno de mis mayores logros recientes ha sido obtener mi carnet de conducir, y a la primera. Sin embargo, este no fue un camino fácil. En toda España, solo hay una autoescuela adaptada que puede atender mis necesidades específicas, y está ubicada en Bilbao, a más de 600 kilómetros de mi casa en Mallorca.

<div>Para poder asistir a esta autoescuela, tuve que invertir una considerable cantidad de tiempo, esfuerzo y dinero, junto a mi madre. Los costos totales, incluyendo el viaje, alojamiento y las clases, ascendieron a aproximadamente 6 mil euros, todo saliendo de ahorros que tenía desde mis 18, cuando supe que necesitaría dinero para conseguir el carnet... Fue un sacrificio enorme que asumí con la esperanza de ganar un poco de independencia en el futuro.

<div>Sin embargo, lo que no sabía era que obtener el carnet de conducir sería solo el primer paso de un arduo camino. Ahora me enfrento a un reto aún mayor: adaptar un coche para poder utilizarlo de manera segura y autónoma. El coste de esta adaptación es desorbitado, alrededor de 34 mil euros, sin contar el coche, una suma que está muy lejos de mi capacidad económica actual.

<div>Lo más decepcionante es que no existen subvenciones ni ayudas económicas disponibles para cubrir estos gastos, o al menos una parte de ellos, aquí en España.

<div>La falta de un coche adaptado limita enormemente mi movilidad hoy en día. El transporte público en Mallorca no está bien conectado, y para llegar a mi trabajo debo caminar largas distancias. En otros casos, el transporte ni siquiera llega a los lugares donde debo trabajar. Para muchos, caminar podría ser una molestia menor, pero para mí, representa un esfuerzo físico considerable y agotador. Cada paso que doy cuesta el doble de lo que le costaría a una persona sin movilidad reducida.

<div>Tener un coche adaptado no es solo una cuestión de comodidad; es una necesidad urgente para mejorar mi calidad de vida. Significa poder ir a trabajar sin depender de terceros, ir a sitios sin agotarme por el camino, realizar mis tareas diarias con mayor facilidad, como hacer la compra, o simplemente tener la capacidad de movilizarme por lugares donde no llega el transporte público. En definitiva, es ganar un poco de independencia dentro de mi dependencia.

<div>Es frustrante y decepcionante ver cómo las personas con movilidad reducida no solo enfrentamos barreras físicas, sino también económicas y sociales. No solo nos encontramos con más obstáculos en nuestro día a día, sino que también nos vemos obligados a pagar mucho más que cualquier otra persona para realizar actividades cotidianas que muchos dan por sentadas.

<div>Hoy, me encuentro en una situación en la que necesito pedir ayuda. He pensado muchas veces en hacerlo, pero la verdad es que me daba mucha vergüenza. Sin embargo, gracias a varios conocidos y amigos que, sin saberlo, me han animado, finalmente me he decidido.

<div>Siento que no hay tanta inclusión ni visibilidad como parece. Somos personas con movilidad reducida física, que deseamos llevar una vida normal en una sociedad que no nos facilita las cosas; todo lo contrario, cada paso que conseguimos dar adelante, con el esfuerzo que nos supone, nos encontramos con aún más desafíos y barreras que nos desmoralizan. Barreras que, desgraciadamente, nos hacen preguntarnos si realmente estamos queriendo abarcar demasiado, si deberíamos conformarnos con lo que hay. Pero sé que no es así; nos merecemos inclusión e igualdad de condiciones reales, no solo de palabra.

<div>Compartiendo esta historia, podemos superar estas barreras y construir una sociedad más inclusiva, donde todos tengamos la oportunidad de vivir con dignidad y autonomía.

<div>One of my biggest recent achievements has been getting my driver's license—and on the first try. But the journey to get there wasn't easy. There's only one driving school in all of Spain that's adapted to meet my specific needs, and it's located in Bilbao, over 600 kilometers away from my home in Mallorca.

<div>To attend this driving school, my mom and I had to invest a significant amount of time, effort, and money. The total costs, including travel, accommodation, and lessons, came to around 6,000 euros—money I had been saving since I was 18 when I realized I would need it to get my license because I could only do that in another city. It was a huge sacrifice, but I made it in the hope of gaining a bit more independence in the future.

<div>What I didn't know was that getting my license would be just the first step in a much harder journey. Now, I'm facing an even bigger challenge: adapting a car so I can use it safely and independently. The cost of this adaptation is staggering, around 34,000 euros—not including the car itself—a sum that's far beyond my current financial means.

<div>What's most disheartening is that there are no grants or financial aid available to cover these expenses, or even part of them, here in Spain.
</div>

<div>Not having an adapted car greatly limits my mobility today. Public transportation in Mallorca isn't well-connected, and to get to work, I have to walk long distances. In some cases, public transportation doesn't even reach the places where I need to work. For many, walking might be a minor inconvenience, but for me, it represents a considerable and exhausting physical effort. Every step I take costs me twice as much as it would for someone without reduced mobility.

<div>Having an adapted car isn't just about convenience; it's an urgent necessity to improve my quality of life. It means being able to go to work without relying on others, getting to places without exhausting myself on the way, and making everyday tasks like grocery shopping easier. It also means having the ability to move around in areas where public transport doesn't reach. In short, it's about gaining a bit of independence within my dependence.

<div>It's frustrating and disappointing to see how people with reduced mobility face not only physical barriers but also economic and social ones. We don't just encounter more obstacles in our daily lives; we're also forced to pay much more than anyone else to do everyday activities that many take for granted.

<div>Today, I'm in a situation where I need to ask for help. I've thought about doing this many times, but honestly, I was too embarrassed. However, thanks to several friends and acquaintances who, without even knowing it, encouraged me, I've finally decided to go for it.

<div>I feel like there's not as much inclusion or visibility as it seems. We are people with physical mobility challenges who want to live a normal life in a society that doesn't make it easy for us; in fact, it's quite the opposite. Every step forward we manage to take, with all the effort it requires, we encounter even more challenges and barriers that discourage us. Barriers that, unfortunately, make us question whether we're reaching too far, whether we should just settle for what we have. But I know that's not the case; we deserve real inclusion and equal opportunities, not just lip service.

<div>By sharing this story, we can overcome these barriers and build a more inclusive society where everyone has the chance to live with dignity and autonomy.
