Abi Roots' Medical Fund

In 1997, when Abi was just 19 years old, a routine college physical revealed that she had diabetes. This diagnosis came as a shock, as there was no family history of the disease and Abi had always practiced a healthy and active lifestyle.  It was first believed to be Type 2, or “adult-onset”, however over the years it progressed until Abi eventually became solely dependent on insulin injections. Since her diagnosis she has fought the disease with every ounce of determination, humor, strength, integrity and positivity—and always with that beautiful smile that we know and love— but it has taken a toll on her body. She is now in Stage 5 renal failure, requiring dialysis three times a week, and is in immediate need of a kidney and pancreas transplant. 

In January, she will begin compatibility testing with potential living kidney donors as well as be put on a waitlist for a donor pancreas. Right now we're not sure what the timeframe is, but what we are sure of is that she needs our help ASAP. 

Abi has begun dialysis three times a week, which has left her with very little energy to do things we take for granted—like working or even driving a car. Getting out of bed is even a challenge.  As a result, she has used up all of her sick and vacation days at work, putting her in a situation where she is now trying to support herself without any income.

Abi is trying to maintain her job and health insurance, both of which are absolutely necessary for any of her health needs to be realized... PLEASE consider donating to help keep Abi on her feet while she is in this difficult period.
