AST Play areas & Soccer Field

Can you help too?
Like all big projects, this one has gone o
We have ambitious plans to catapult The American School of Tangier into an ideal 21st century learning environment for the whole Community. The Playground and Soccer Field are part of the plan.

Every penny helps!
All contributions are US tax deductible because AST is a non-profit corportion based in the USA.
Like all projects that expand as they go, this one is overbudget.

The American School of Tangier was the first American school in North Africa, and has been serving students for 65 years. The student population  is mulit-national and lingual with 83% Moroccans, 15% Americans, and Europeans from many countries, especially Spain, France, Germany and Holland.

As a community leader, Tangier needs AST to be an innovative, creative, high academic learning center. AST needs to shine over, and into, Tangier with intelligence, integrity and empathy.

A healthy student is one who gets regular exercise. Sports, and outdoor activities, are a core component of student  success. The Teamwork and Community building, thanks to the soccer field, and the motor and social skills developed  on the playground, will help all children in their quest for success.

As you can see in the photograph, the outdoor play areas  - soccer field and playground - are in bad shape. The school is investing heavily in the academic areas this year, and cannot afford to also upgrade the outdoor areas. Both areas need proper drainage, both need new cover. The field needs leveling as well. The playground is currently covered with sand which is used regularly by the cats for their business and is unsanitary.

AST needs an upgrade. This campaign is focused on the outdoor areas, the school is focusing on the inside.

If AST can be further developed, it will be better able to serve a broader population, with a broader scope of programs such as Soccer Camps open to the community.

Many people in the community are working to make the field of dreams come true.
To date, efforts of 232 people include:
- Elementary Bake  Sale - $60
- 6th grade student organized soccer tournament - $60
- Model United Nations Team donated $1,000
- AST Community Day - created by 50 teachers and administrators, 45 parents, many students - raised $12,000
- Two parents gave $25,000 each
- A Board member has given $10,000
- One parent gave $500
- The Head and Principal contributed $500 each
