Last December our community lost one of its true leaders, Jim Curti. Coach Curti was "The Man" in so many ways. For over 20 years Coach Curti dedicated his free time to the community that he loved. He was the President of the Saint Mary’s Athletic Association (SMAA). He was past President of Saint Mary’s Soccer Club (SMSC). He was head coach of Saint Mary’s School Basketball. He was head coach of the U12 Game 7 Sharks Elite Basketball AAU Team. He was the coach of the SMSC now Hazlet United Wolverines U12 Soccer team. Questions about basketball, soccer, sign ups, someone to open the school for a meeting, a helping hand to sweep the gym floor, attending soccer meetings, attending basketball meetings, coordinating speed and agility for the kids, securing lights on the basketball courts for summer basketball, and all questions about your carpeting and tile wants/needs for sure were always passed through Coach Curti and Curti Floors.
You see, Coach Curti was our go to guy. He wore the hats of many and never once complained about doing what he loved. He did it all For The Kids! You don't just pick one person to replace a man like Coach Curti. He was one of a kind, a rare find and a guy that is simply irreplaceable.
Sacrifice is what Coach Curti's family did for many of us. Coach Curti's family shared his time in order for so many of us to benefit from what Coach Curti had to offer. It is these selfless acts by the Curti family that we will forever be grateful for.
It is now our turn to say Thanks to Coach Curti and his family as they have given so much to so many. We have pledged to run the NYC Marathon on Sunday November 2, 2014. When I say "we" I refer to the commitment of family, friends, team and community to train, prepare, support and fundraise for the cause. After not being selected in the lottery process we entered the marathon through Team For Kids, a very worthwhile charity that fights childhood obesity by providing coaching, training and activites for cxhildren who do not have the means to particiapte otherwise in extracirricular activities. By entering Team For Kids, we have committed to raise $2,620 for TFK. Having said that, we are thinking much bigger than $2,620 as every dollar thereafter will be going directly to Coach Curti's family.
