Arjun&Maya's Medical Trip Nepal

Dear Friends and Family,
It was a big step of faith for us -Arjun and Maya, as we decided to move from Columbus, Ohio to Buffalo, New York in April 2017. Jericho Road Community Health Center (JRCHC) asked us to join the Health clinic in Buffalo, but most importantly, be a part of Global Medical Work in Nepal. We both have a great desire to serve Nepal in some way. Joining and leading a medical team to Nepal and possibly one day opening a sustainable medical clinic to serve Nepalese would be a dream come true!
In February 2017, a medical team from Jericho Road took an exploratory trip to an isolated region of Nepal known as Hagam, Sindhupalchok. Hagam is a set of 10 villages nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas close to the Tibetan border. This is the same region of Nepal that was most devastated by a violent earthquake of 7.8 Richter scale in April 2015. This earthquake affected millions people with 8700 deaths, destroyed roads, and villages and even today continues to block humanitarian aid because of landslides and impassable terrain. While there, the team met many survivors of that earthquake and provided medical care to over 300 patients.
This Nepal trip was such a success, that the Hagam communities have asked the team to come back! In March 2018, we will be joining the larger medical team from Jericho Road to Hagam for 2 weeks to provide community health education and medical care to this marginalized community. Our team will consist of medical care providers, nurses, publich health-epidemiologist, spiritual care providers from Nepal, Burma, and United States. While there, we will be working closely with the Nepalese government, NGO’s, local health officials and the Hagam residents to determine the community needs and the possibility of one day establishing a functional health center in this community.
We- Arjun with his Master of Public Health- Epidemiology and Maya with her Family Nurse Practitioner- Primary Care /Urgent Care Provider skills are so excited for this opportunity to serve Nepal through medical clinic!
