I am a 38-year-old mother of three wonderful children, ranging in age from 2 to 8. Within a month of finding a lump on my breast, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of stage 3 breast cancer. My treatment will include 4 months of chemo, followed by bilateral mastectomy, and radiation and continued chemo after that. Now that I've started chemo, my immune system will be suppressed. As a part-time physical therapist in a hospital, I can no longer treat patients in that environment to safeguard against infection. As a result, our income will be greatly reduced for the next year. Although we are blessed to have access to quality healthcare and insurance, our expenses over the next year are expected to exceed our income. We recognize that support comes in many forms and appreciate those that are able to contribute financially as well as those that show their support in other ways. I am encouraged by the love and support that we have received already, and I feel empowered as I start down the road to recovery.
