A FAMILY NEEDS YOUR HELP! Leaving the theater tonight I came upon a family Mom, Dad 2 kids under 4 standing at the edge of the parking lot - kids sitting on their suitcase- Mom watching the kids and a bewildered father that had nowhere for his family to sleep tonight. I drove by and tried to ignore the situation. But my guilt and my 15-year-old daughter wouldn't let me. The next thing I know I'm heading back with 4 kids meals, 2 quarter pounders, fries, and drink,s and with that I thought I had done my good deed for the month & set a good example for Jamie. Not so fast- I asked if they had somewhere to stay tonight and learned they had been kicked out of the extended stay hotel they have been living in since March for nonpayment. The skeptic that I am I headed to the Hotel to find out if they were for real- or just trying to con me. It turns out they were for real- I settled their bill (I am only sharing this story because this family needs help).
The hotel manager told me what a great family they were & he told me their story. Dad, an ASC certified mechanic, transmission are his specialty, lost his job when his wife became ill- he missed too much work staying home to take care of the kids and his wife- he then lost his house and while moving out, all his tools were stolen- 45k worth of tools. Apparently without his tools employment was impossible to find. Then his only car broke down for good. The hotel manager tells me Dad takes every kind of work he can find to support his family. A couple weeks ago he finally got a job with a moving company- HE IS TRYING SO HARD TO GET HIS FEET BACK ON THE GROUND AND SUPPORT HIS FAMILY- but paying close to $1200 a month to live in a hotel- no car- no cell phone- no access to a computer they just can't get ahead- hell they can't keep up at all. He needs a car, a home, the basic Mechanics tools and better job. I AM REACHING OUT TO MY GENEROUS FRIENDS & FAMILY AND ASKING IF YOU CAN HELP ME HELP THIS FAMILY.
I have seen the generosity of my fabulous friends & family many times before and am asking you to contact me if you can help. Whatever you can- donate money, mechanics tools, maybe you have an old car you want to get rid of. Maybe you know someone that can help this man get a position in his field. Whatever you think you can do to help this family would be greatly appreciated.
FYI- I grilled the Hotel manager about the family’s lifestyle- they do not drink, do drugs or engage in any illegal activity. The manager told they are awesome parents- they always put their kids first- Dad actually fixed the managers car for him. Who I am: My name is Katie Alu- I have 4 children and work in the marketing field. I live in Columbus Ohio. I am currently researching the best way to distribute the funds to the family to assure we accomplish our goal and help them get back on their feet for good. The money will be used to help them find, secure, and pay for housing. Pay off any debt they have that is holding them back, provide food, transportation, and clothing and hopefully purchase some mechanics tools so the father can find employment in his trade.

It's amazing how things work sometimes- an executive at United Health Care saw my FB post promoting this campaign. They offered to include this family as part of their pilot program for their new community out reach program- myConnections. They have connected this family with one of their representatives who is helping them get back on their feet. She is helping them get medical coverage, housing they can afford, financial literacy training, Employment assistance-They have created a Care Plan- it covers just about everything imaginable to meet their needs and get them back on the road to a healthy happy life. This has been a God send for me and the family. I do not have the tools and knowledge necessary to assist them in this way. Hopefully, they will be out of the extended stay hotel quickly and permanently. The money will be transferred to the family in a couple of days. I cannot thank all of the donors enough.
