Zambia, Africa Medical Mission

Donation protected

Hi friends and family, I hope this letter finds you well.  As most of you know I have been a pediatric registered nurse for the past 4 years at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. I have been very fortunate to have such an amazing and rewarding job. Helping educate patients and families and taking care of children is truly what I was meant to do with my life.  I have always wanted to go on a medical mission and help those less fortunate than myself.  This is why I am writing this letter to let everyone  know that I have been given this amazing opportunity to go on a medical mission to the Republic of Zambia, located in Africa.  This is a country that is in desperate need of pediatric medical attention.  There are kids dying daily from preventable causes.  Of course I want to do what I can to help.

This October 2012, myself and 6 other medical professionals, consisting of 2 family practice physicians, 2 family practice residents and 2 nurses. We will be working at Lumezi Hospital and a local clinic.  This hospital has 1 doctor and 1 registered nurse and 3 midwives and they receive approximately 500 patients a day.

The most common illnesses are malaria and HIV/AIDS.   Two thirds of the children in Zambia have malaria and  120,000 children are estimated to be infected with HIV. I want to expand my services to those who are in desperate need for the knowledge and services I can provide. The most difficult part of this trip is raising the money to help me get there.  I need all the support I can get.  No donation is too small and all would be greatly appreciated.  The money donated will also go towards medical supplies needed to help these children have a better chance at life.  I will also be having a fundraiser and will keep you posted once it is organized. Thank you so much for supporting me on this amazing opportunity and adventure.  If you have any questions please don't hesitate to email, call or text me.
