ACC Service Learning Trip

Donation protected
From April 25-May 1st 2015, the ACC team, 9 students and 4 teachers, will go to Pine Ridge Native American Reservation in South Dakota to help improve their quality of life through building projects such as building outhouses, handicap ramps, school desks, etc.  (with the guidance of the Re-Member program.)

From 1980 to 2000, the counties that make up Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota comprised the poorest of our nation's 3,143 counties. Life expectancy on Pine Ridge is the lowest in the United States and the 2nd lowest in the Western Hemisphere. Only Haiti has a lower rate.  Let me repeat, this is an area of the United States of America!

This trip will both strengthen communities and repair wrongs of the past. It will also build civic awareness in our students and make them better leaders and communicators as they fundraise, share stories of the hardship and resilience they witnessed, and gain experience living and working with those in need.

All of these skills and experiences will help our students to be more competitive applicants for college and for jobs, and to become active citizens and leaders in their communities and beyond.

This trip will cost over $1,000 per person, so we need your help to get us there! Any tax-deductible gift, large or small, will put us one step closer to going to Pine Ridge and making change. Please be apart of our team and help us help the Lakota. Together, we can make positive changes right her in the United States.
