ABERNE - Presentation


We are 2 graduate MFA students at Columbia College of Chicago.  Irati Santiago (producer) and Emma Johnson (writer/director) and this is our thesis project.

ABERNE tells the story of a young basque woman struggling to be accepted amongst external societal pressures in a region where friends, family and co-workers come together under one sport, pelota.

Aberne seeks the opportunity to break free from the culture’s limitation and proof herself worthy of not only playing pelota, but of the general public’s respect.

In the end, her determination and perserverance inspire others. And this is precisely the message that we want to transmit to the public.

This story can only be told from the Basque Country, therefore we are filming it in Basque Country, Spain and we need your contribution to make it happen. Thank you very much.

Nuestros nombres son Irati Santiago (productora) y Emma Johnson (escritora/directora)y somos estudiantes de Master en Columbia College of Chicago. Esta es nuestra tésis.

ABERNE cuenta la historia de una joven chica vasca que lucha por poder jugar a la pelota profesional y romper las barreras sociales y culturales que tanto le limitan.

Al final, su determinación y perseverancia hacen que inspire a otras personas.  Ese es, precisamente, el mensaje que queremos transmitir al público.

Dado que esta historia sólo se puede contar desde el País Vasco, necesitamos vuestra ayuda para poder llevarlo a cabo. Muchas gracias.

ABERNE neska pelotari baten istorioa da. Abernek pelota profesionalean jokatu nahi du, nahiz eta bere jaiotzako kulturak kontran egin. Neke handiak pasa ondoren eta Abernek pelota profesionalean jokatzea lortu ez arren, herriko beste neskatoak iradokitzen ditu pelotan jokatzeko eta beraien ametseei amore ez ematen irakasten die.

Istorioaren mezua barreneko indarra ateratzea eta inoiz amore ez ematea da. Horixe bera da “ABERNE”_k kontatzen duena eta guk, zinemagile bezala, jendeari igorri nahi dioguna.

ABERNE Euskadin filmatu daiteke solik, beraz, zuen laguntza behar dugu proiektua aurrera ateratzeko. Mil esker.
