VET FUND & ONGOING EXPENSES

Daily upkeep, Veterinary care, Yard & Facility Improvements & Expansion for dogs fostered through AB-HERDING DOG RESCUE.

Alberta Herding Dog Rescue is a small, nationally registered Not-for-Profit organization that deals specifically with herding breeds such as Border Collies, Australian Cattle Dogs (Heelers), Australian Kelpies, Australian Shepherds, Coolies, Catahoulas, Corgis, Malinois (and other Belgian Shepherd varieties), as well as German Shepherd Dogs.

We are not a shelter with expansive facilities & office hours.  We are a small group of herding & agility enthusiasts that foster the dogs in our homes & this resource, as with many rescues, is severely limited.  Because of our limited resources we cannot take in every dog & we will not take in people or dog aggressive dogs.  We were set up to take in dogs that exhibit those often misunderstood herding behaviours or who have the non-stop energy of the herding breeds but not the instinct.

Our goal is to find pet homes for those dogs that do not herd, herding homes if the instinct is very strong - basically, active homes with adopters that understand the breed & will work with them as needed.  Once accepted into rescue, the dogs are welcome to stay with us until the most perfect match can be found.  It is not a first come, first serve system & there may be some applications refused, as we are trying to find the home that can best provide what that particular dog needs.

All dogs are spayed or neutered, receive regular vaccinations & deworming, are fed a quality kibble & have clean crates/kennels & bedding to sleep in for as long as they are in foster care.   The dogs also get daily runs & play time, with dogs of similar size & personality, in our 3-4 acre yard.  Our current training goals are simply to help these dogs become good pets for adoption by the breed knowledgeable & active public.  In the future, to provide the stimulation & work that many of these dogs need to stay "sane", we would like to purchase agility equipment as well as build a shelter & re-fence the pasture for a small flock of sheep.

We are a small NFP group so we are limited in how we can fundraise but the expenses are ongoing & fundraising to cover the costs never actually ends.    Our wish list outlines the basic costs if we have to pay top dollar but we welcome discounts or item donations & corporate partnerships are a blessing.

Our current expenses average $2500/month, depending entirely on the number of dogs in foster care & the veterinary care required.  Any donations made will go directly to the rescue program to cover the immediate needs - vet care, food, shelter, toys, training, grooming.

Unfortunately, although we are a registered Not-for-Profit, we cannot give tax deductible receipts without charity status (an option we are considering).

Thank you so much for your support, now & always!
