A Heart for Del

Donation protected
My husband, Del Cox, was born with Congenitally Corrected Transposition of the Great Arteries.  In essence, his heart is "backwards" For 46 years his heart has been working extra hard.  He has a pacemaker and is on many medications all meant to assist his heart to last as long as possible.  We have known that a time would come when his heart would become too tired and cease to work.

In January of this year we learned that his heart has now decreased to 19% efficiency.  His doctor told us the walls of his heart are thickening, making it harder for it to pump, and that when it reaches 15% efficiency he will be placed on the Heart Transplant List.

After the shock wore off, we went into prepare mode.  As you may know or not know, a heart transplant is one of the most expensive surgeries. The cost, soley for the surgery, is over $1 Million dollars. We have good insurance, but it only covers so much, so we have decided to use this time that we have been given to raise as much as we can to help pay for our portion of the surgery.

Del is a very kind and giving loving man and deserves to enjoy life.  At 46 there is still so much in life left to experience and treasure.  I love my husband and pray I have many more years with him.

The apartment complex that we have moved in to is planning on holding a lot of different fundraisers for Del this summer. Our church, and the churches our friends and family attend, have all stated they will hold fundraisers for Del. We have also designed T-shirts that we are selling (I will update this page with links to the T-shirts when they are available if you woul like one), and a good friend in a Christian Band has said she and her band will hold a benefit concert for Del as well.

This website, www.gofundme.com, is one of several avenues being used to aid in raising funds to defray the cost of the coming medical expenses we are facing.  Our goal is to raise as close to the $25K in the next 9 months or so as we can, between all avenues of fundraising.  We are praying that we have that long before Del's heart fails

I have also set up a Medical Account at Golden West Credit Union in Layton, UT.  This account has controls in place that make it accessible only for the medical costs. In order to remove funds from the account i have to supply medical bills and the bank cuts the checks.  If funds remain, it is set up so they are donated to the Utah University Hospital's Transplant fund.
