A Bike for Sean

Donation protected
My nephew Sean was born more than 13 weeks premature back in 1995. He has a host of ailments requiring multiple hospitalizations. They said he would never walk, but he proved them wrong. Just weeks after first walking he was in a serious car accident and his neck was broken. He lived for months in a halo and was again not expected to walk - again he proved the Doctors wrong. He has had hydrocephalus and had shunts installed. He doesn't speak in a way most people can understand, but he speaks volumes with a stroke of his hand on yours or his head on your shoulder. He will never live independently, but that hasn't stopped his family from planning a full life for him at home. He has the most amazing parents who have provided a loving family and also endured other tragic and difficult circumstances that most of us will never deal with in our blessed lives. His mother donated a kidney to her sister because that is what she does for family. As a couple, Sean's parents have suffered with the loss of another child at birth. Their youngest has a liver defect that most likely will require a transplant at some point in her life. They are blessed with medical insurance and a never ending spirit as they make dozens of trips to hospitals over the years. This isn't a plea to help with medical costs, this is an attempt to give Sean some mobility and a view of the world that he wouldn't get except for this special bike/wheelchair combination. Sean has some mobility around the house, but anything beyond a couple dozen yards requires a wheelchair. He has outgrown his current chair and as he now deals with severe scoliosis and low muscle tone. He is actually scheduled to have a rod surgically implanted in his upper back in late October. This make this fundraising effort even more important as the detachable chair will be critical to getting him around as he recuperates.. Through all this pain and daily challenges to do tasks we take for granted Sean has brought true perspective and lessons in perseverance and unconditional love to his family and friends. The bike he needs is one that is a specially designed ride that is essentially a tricycle with a wheelchair seat on the front. The model I'd like to surprise his family with is a motorized one that will allow my brother to drive Sean around parks and trails in their hometown as they both get a bit older. Please help a young man realize a level of mobility that he has been striving for his whole life. God Bless. If you are unable to donate, please just share with your Facebook friends. We can make this happen by getting the word out to as many people as possible.
