Kindness Matters

Life is tough. Kindness matters.

As a healthcare professional in a long term care facility, I see and experience the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic every day.

It is taking a toll on our residents and their family members, all of whom desperately want to be together in the same physical space to talk and share a hug.

It is taking a toll on us as caregivers as we try to not only fulfill our professional duties but also to fill the void that our residents feel due to the ongoing physical isolation from family and friends.

How do we get through this? Kindness.

As the holidays approach, you have likely considered what this will mean for you and your family and have started to accept that family and community traditions will be disrupted this year. Those of us working in long term care facilities are  considering how this will impact our residents and their families and trying to find ways to bring a little extra joy to our community.

I have recruited a small group of volunteers to help me create handmade outdoor decorations/displays for each resident's window at the long term care facility in which I work. If you are able, consider making a donation to help cover the cost of the supplies for these decorations. We will be purchasing wood, paint, metal posts, and battery-powered lights to make a display for each resident.

Let's spread a little extra kindness this holiday season to show the seniors in our community that they are loved!
