Medical and Moving for mom with PE

Hello!

I am a mom and a writer who had a plan to return to school after her daughter flew the nest and get her degree in graphic arts, intending to work as a graphic artist and social media director.

In Dec 2013 I began to notice some off health problems and by January I was very ill.  I was hospitalised for nearly a week with edema (swelling / fluid retention) that put pressure on my heart. At first the doctors could not pinpoint exactly what was going on.  Then I experienced sudden and sever breathing problems and was readmitted with a new doctor who ordered a series of MRIs and therapy that had not been done earlier.  They found blood clots in my lungs, and the edema was preventing my heart from expanding so it could not pump.

I became too ill to work and we lost our home. Since August of 2014 we have been living in our car.

June 2015 - We are now in Long Beach, CA, out of the heat and away from the fires. I have access to better medical treatment here and my daughter was able to get into a little apartment with her friends from school.

Knowing that she is safe and inside I can focus more on getting back and forth to the doctor's, pain management and medication. Just the basics. I am still in the car and that doesn't look like it's going to change until I get disability. Right now my cash / food benifits are completely messed-up because we crossed county lines.

Oct 2015 - I now am in the process of becomming approved for low-income housing. It took five months to work my way up the list to get the application interview, now we are working our way up that list. Hopefully I will have a home sometime in the new year.

In the meantime, difficulties with nutrition and lack of mobility have resulted in a diagnosis of type II diabetes. (I have found that this is not uncommon in people who are unable to eat and exercise because of illness.) Because I have no way to cook anything I have to be very creative about buying food and keeping it from spoiling in the car, and on $180 a month for groceries not resulting to fast food is a huge challenge.

I have started a Tumblr-blog if you want to follow us day-to-day: http://secretly-homeless.tumblr.com/

We still need help with the basics - food, gas, clean laundry.  Asking God for the rest.  Namaste!
