Lonnie Dee Union’s Failing Heart

Lonnie Dee Union, a great and caring father, grand-father, brother, uncle, cousin, and Christian has been faced with the unfortunate circumstances of having an impaired heart.  On the outside, Dee has a heart of gold with a history of always helping his community and those in need. As a correctional officer for 30 years, Dee has and continues to live a healthy lifestyle. Dee recently retired as a Lieutenant last June 2017 and it’s been a constant struggle with heart disease since retiring. In July, Dee was rushed to the hospital where he had to undergo an emergency triple heart bi-pass surgery. Following the procedure, the Cardiologist informed Dee that he needed a Heart Life Vest, to address his low heart rate.  

              Today, the man who lends a helping hand is in need of our help. Dee’s health insurance does not cover health equipment. The monthly rental fee for a heart life vest is $3,750, which totals $11,250.  If his heart isn’t any stronger after three months of use, the doctors will perform another surgery to insert a Heart Defibrillator.
