<div>Hello my name is Destiny. The cute little dog Im sitting next to is our sweet girl Suki. She's a 75lb plotthound mix with an unfortunate auto-immune diease. About 5 days we noticed that Suki was having some diarrhea; we have other dogs with health issues so we knew the next steps to take (we were treating her as if she had a slight tummy ache) We started her on a bland diet to giver her stomach a rest but soon we noticed she wouldnt eat. One night we were on the couch giving her some much needed tummy rubs when we noticed she had some bruising. At this point it wasnt much but still concerning! Took some pictures and headed into work the next day (im a dog groomer at our local petsmart where we happen to have an in-store pet hospital) and showed the ladies what we found and explained her tummy issues. They urged me to take a look at her stool when we could get the chance. I schedule her a visit for the next day and go home. I go to let her out her kennel and im hit with this metallic smell. I get her outside where she yet again has a bout of diarrhea and i go to take a look...her stool is black. Its the darkest color ive ever seen i could compare it to liquid charcoal, thats how bad it was. I immediately snap a picture and get in contact of one of the girls at vets office. At this point the bruising on her body has spread to include the areas under her armpits, down the insides of her front and back legs, and under her tail. I shave any bruising that i see to monitor how large they get and if she has more. We load her up and head to the emergency vets. We give them the spiel of what she's been going through and they run her blood. About an hour goes by and the vet comes in to tell us her results. Everything looks normal and she tested negative for any tick-borne diseases. The only issues were her platlets(these are little cells that are responsible for aiding in clotting) her levels are dangerously low. To put into perspective they should have around 150,000-400,000 Suki's levels were around 15,000. Good thing is Suki was still very energetic and lively. They were suspicious that her immune system was attacking her platlets and her body couldnt keep up with the amount she was loosing. ITP or Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia is an autoimmune disorder in dogs where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys platelets, leading to a low platelet count (thrombocytopenia). We were prescribed some steroids and antibacteria meds to give her once we got home. She still has no appetite so we cant start her meds and she is still having black tarry stool. We monitor her over night and into Monday morning. We take her into our regular vets office and they run another blood test. The results show that her platets dropped to 13,000 over night. Our vet is also suspecting that she has ITP and gave her an injectible steroid to kickstart battling her immune system. They also performed an ultrasound to determine if she has any freeform fluids (like blood) floating around her gi-tract. After spending the day at the vet we bring her home with another slew of medications and more signs of bleeding/bruising. We finally get her to eat some boiled chicken and gave Suki her medication for the night. My fiance slept out in the living room with her to keep an eye on her when we noticed she had bleeding from her rectum and now in her gums her activity level went down to non-existant. We rushed her back to the vets and they ran another blood test. Good news! Her platelets increased to 21,000 however her red blood count dropped by 10% . At this point Suki is not herself. Shes refusing to eat and we have to coax her to get up to go potty. Her vets decide to keep her for a full day again and they do an aggressive treatment plan for our sweet girl. With the addition of her red blood cells dropping her vet now believes she has whats called Evans Disease, basically her immune system is now attacking her red blood cells in addition to attacking her platlets. We pick her up after a full day and they send us on our way with us on the look out for any additional bleeding especially in her eyes and nose. By this point its wednesday night and we're still trying to get her to eat. She's no longer interested in boiled chicken and the vet suggest that we get her to eat anything and to force her medication to help her immune system. We get her to take a couple pieces of lunch meat and medicate her again for the night. Thursday morning rolls around and i go to check on her and notice shes got blood on the blanket shes laying on. I check her nose and notice theres blood leaking from her right nostril. I contact her vet again and they urge me to bring her back in for yet another blood test. On the way to the vets her right eye begins to hemorrhage and the bleeding is getting progressivly worse.  They run her blood and her red blood count and platelets dropped even more from wednesday morning. Unfortunately at this stage the vets office im at says that theres not much more than can do since thier main focus is preventative care and at this moment Suki needs intensive care. We talked about euthanasia however my fiance could not bring herself to make that decision. Im writing this and making this post in hopes that our family and friends can help us raise enough funds to support Suki's emergency care. The most immediate action to help prolong her fight and give us a better chance at getting her back to stability would be a blood transfusion to help Suki's body replace all of the blood she is loosing.
