Michael Kelly's road to recovery

After hundreds of tests and more than a month in the Critical Care Unit, Michael's family got what probably seemed to be the best phone call ever from a nurse at Tufts-NEMC, they found a diagnosis! He was diagnosed with Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis (an acute form of encephalitis that has high probability of recovery). His doctors started the treatment immediately. Michael was moved to Spaulding Rehabilitation on May 5th where he will continue treatments until he has recovered (1-2 years is the average recovery period).

Michael's seven year old son, Thomas, has been living with him full time for the past 2 years. Michael has been his primary care taker. Michael is Thomas' best friend and he means the world to him, so this is an extremely difficult time for him. The recovery with this disease can be extremely long and hard. Just like everyone else, Michael's family all have their own bills and things to pay for. I am making this donation page for Michael and his son, so that Michael won't have to worry while he recovers and Michael's family won't have to ever worry about Thomas' expenses on top of their own.

Michael is and always has been an amazing father to Thomas, always keeping him busy with sports and showing him unconditional love. I know if Michael could talk right now he would want Thomas to be taken care of first, so this page is for reassurance for not only Michael but also for his entire family, that they will all be helped, supported and taken care of by all the people who love Michael and Thomas!
