ABA for Adam

Our precious Adam was diagnosed with Autism at 18 months of age. After his diagnosis we immediately began in home therapy, (also known as early intervention). When Adam started therapy he was completely non-verbal and unable to express his wants and needs. As a parent it is so heart breaking, when your child doesn’t even know his own name or is unable to call you mommy or daddy. He was what some would describe as “in his own world”. We knew if we were going to help our son, we needed the right tools to do so. His therapist taught us many things including how to be part of “Adam’s world”. If we broke into his world than that meant we could reach him. We played a whole lot of hide and seek, sang itsy bitsy spider, imitated farm animal sounds and much more, for many hours a week. Within three months of receiving therapy at home we started seeing significant changes and knew this was something we needed to continue.
Adam is now five years old and continues to receive therapy at home as well as in school. We are so pleased with his ABA therapist and all that she has taught our precious Adam. He now knows he is “Adam” and those two people that care for him are “Mommy and Daddy”. He is an intelligent little boy and is academically working at a first to second grade level. Unfortunately like many children with ASD, Adam struggles with expressive language and continues to require therapy.
As of April 1, 2014 our insurance plan changed and our co-payment has doubled for Adam’s therapy. With the rising rate of Autism in our country one would think this would be implemented into every insurance plan, to give our children the tools they will need to become as productive as possible for the future. As a result of the insurance changes we have had to cancel Adam’s speech therapy outside of school and are struggling to afford his ABA therapy co-payments. We have created this page to raise money towards Adam’s therapy for the year. We greatly appreciate any donation that will help us toward reaching our goal.
We have not yet reached the finish line, but we have definitely made it passed the starting line.
