Dozer's Surgical Journey

Donation protected

St. Francis Animal Protection Society pulled Dozer from the San Jose shelter because he had not been adopted  in July 2014.  He had some skin growths that needed monitoring in addition to an unstable cranial cruciate ligament, also referred to as a dog's ACL. We were warned that he might need surgery down the road.
Since that time, Dozer has developed more skin growths and the stability of his knee has declined to the point where he has difficulty walking on it. We are now scheduling a dual surgery which will fix his knee joint and allow him to be weight bearing again, along with removing excess skin from a malignant mass on the same leg. Our vet feels confident that if Dozer is kept out of the sun, he has a good chance of remaining cancer free in the future.
He is a 60+ lb lovebug who wants to be able to wiggle again (please see his video). His video was made upon his release from the shelter and has just worsened since then.  Dozer has had a lot of instability in his life so far-not just with his leg. He is now in a loving foster home and after a long post surgery where he will need to be confined as to not put pressure on the knee joint, he will look forward to going to his forever home. Thank you for supporting his journey. We never know upon taking an at-risk animal, if they are totally healthy but their happiness and health are our primary concern. Your donations will all be used for Dozer's upcoming surgery scheduled for mid-February. We will be posting updates, progress and photos as they occur.
St. Francis Animal Protection Society has been registered as a 501c Charity in California since 1971, tax id 23-7167918.
