The School of the New York Times

Dear Friends and Family,

I am extremely excited for this amazing opportunity. I have been accepted into the NYC Summer Academy, which is an academic school at the New York Times. I applied at the beginning of February, writing multiple essays, submitting my grades as well as a writing sample, and getting a teacher recommendation. I figured it was a long shot since it’s highly competitive. Yesterday, I received notice that I was accepted! The camp runs from June 10th to the 22nd, and is located at the New York Times building in the heart of New York City. My course is focused on the United Nations, Law, and Journalism. I will be learning from the writers of the New York Times, spending time at the U.N., learning from different experts in their field, and participating alongside students from different countries. I will also have the opportunity to explore the wonderful city and all that it has to offer. Being with like minded students, learning from the best of the best, and pursuing my passions would be an experience of a lifetime.

All that being said, the two week camp is rather costly. In order for me to attend, I will need to raise $5,000 by March 6th, which is why I am reaching out to all of you. I am also generating other ideas for fundraising. Any amount, no matter how small, you could donate would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to forward this letter to others who may be interested in supporting this learning opportunity. Please let me know any questions you have and thanks in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Aleah Keppler
