Hello friends!
As some of you know, my musical journey took an unexpected turn in the spring of 2012, when I took my 1st jazz vocal course at the Jazzschool Community Music School. I begrudgingly enrolled in the class for the sole purpose of improving what I could offer at my church, but it shocked me by being so life-giving and musically challenging! :) At the end of the course, I received strong encouragements to pursue jazz singing seriously from 2 teachers and several close friends. Over the next year and a half, I took more courses as well as some private lessons, but it only took me so far.
In November of 2013, I was in a car accident that made me reevaluate life (not to sound cliché, haha), and I realized that I had indefinitely shelved what I want. As the process of even figuring out what I want unfolded, I discovered part of what I wanted was to see what I could do with some seriously demanding musical training. Thus, I threw myself into applying to and, upon acceptance, studying at the California Jazz Conservatory (CJC) in Berkeley for the spring semester of 2014. The 1st semester was way more than I bargained for and I loved it!
I feel really good about this path and knowing that I want to continue on, I ask you to please consider helping me progress in my jazz studies. The goal amount would cover 2 semesters of tuition in 2014-2015, consisting of 2 vocal performance courses, 2 theory courses, and 2 ensemble courses. Any additional funds raised would go towards additional courses (such as the lyric writing course or composition course) & required books/materials. And truly, I appreciate ANY amount!!
My current income is unable to cover the upcoming year's tuition...it's been a rough year (which you can ask about if you'd like). Also, the CJC is newly accredited and going through the process of becoming eligible for financial aid, which should be available for the 2015-2016 school year but is not available for the upcoming year.
