Friends... The Poole's could use your help. Many of you know that it is not in our nature to ask for help of this magnitude. Please read on...
On May 27 Fox was diagnosed with a spinal disorder called Sheuermann's Kyphosis. This "syndrome" causes the vertebrae in the upper spine to form incorrectly. Instead of being little blocks, the vertebrae are pyramid shaped forcing the spine to curve out making a "hump" on the upper back. Left untreated, it can cause breathing and heart problems, not to mention the extreme stress placed on the lower back. On May 30th, Fox and Kristi drove to Salt Lake City to see a specialist at Shriner's Hospital. This doctor confirmed the diagnosis and recommended surgery.
The surgery is scheduled for July 14th at St. Luke's Children's Hospital here in Boise. During this procedure, Fox will have a complete reconstruction of his spine, complete with rods and pins. He will spend 5 to 10 days in the hospital and then we will begin the 12 month recovery process at home.
Your help will allow us to take the needed time off work to care for Fox; plan activities for his brother in order to keep them busy during this time; and provide the necessary equipment we will need in our home.
