Help Sean Walk Again

Donation protected
As you may already know, In July of 2011 Sean McCartney tripped and fell while getting back into bed after a trip to the bathroom. That fall caused Sean to break his neck at the C-4 level and left him a QUADRIPLEGIC!

After 8 months of Hospitals, Rehabs and Nursing homes he finally went home. A home purchased specifically for his needs. With the help of friends they were able to renovate this home into a handicapped friendly place where Sean could comfortably live and flourish.

Prior to the accident Sean was a small business owner. For approximately 20 years, he owned and operated a successful landscaping company, doing most of the work himself. As you can image, after 8 month recovering then going home as a Quadriplegic, this business was no longer feasible and he had to let it go.

With his business gone and life as he knew it gone, Sean realized he owed it to Mary to do everything in his power to try to walk again. Shortly after arriving home and getting acclimated to his new life he began rehab. Medicaid would only cover this for a short time and then he was on his own. Sean threw himself into every kind of human research for Quads he could find (and still continues to do so). The first study he was involved with was for Spinal Cord Injury Research. Another was to test the EKSO Robotic Walking Device and yet another was for oral medication. Being that he no longer had the financial resources or the backing of insurance for rehabilitation he thought he would donate his time and body to research and kill two birds with one stone....Help himself get stronger and help others that are in his same position...a win win.

Over the past several years among other things, he has been tethered to treadmills, x-rayed, CAT scanned, MRI'ed, blood tested, Bone density tested and walked in an EKSO walking device. This still wasn't enough stimulation for Sean so with very little assistance or ability he simultaneously created his own self training regiment. In the beginning feeding himself and brushing his teeth were huge accomplishment! Next he started with learning how to simply roll. Next he attempt push-ups and some other very difficult movements. After several years, hundreds of push-ups,thousands of "sit-ups" , chest press's, pull down's, seated row's and a myriad of other training routines, he came up with on his own, he has begun to show REAL progress! He is beginning to regain feeling in his lower extremities!

Where there was only despair and frustration he has replaced those feeling with hope and determination!
However, Sean has come to a crossroads, he has hit a dead end in his training. He has done and is continuing to do everything in his power to continue this fight. But he needs our help!! At present he is in need of a standing frame and the assistance of a trained physical therapist to get him to the next level.

The cost of the Standing Frame is $6,500 and the cost of a licensed Phyical Therapist is $100 per hour.

Any and all monies that were raised years ago, went to the handicap renovation of his home, he does not collect welfare and receives only $530 per month from SSI disability. With his assets at zero and resources slim he is hoping that with our help he can still reach his goals. No amount is too small! Please, let's chip in and help Sean stand tall!

If you have a few minutes please check out Sean's YOUtube channel. He has created an Alter Ego/on-line persona, if you will....A bold, rough, provocative character he calls the "Angry Quad" This character preaches education and motivation. He brings his subscribers along for a journey through his strenuous exercise routines, tells stories from experience and discusses overcoming everyday obstacles as a handicapped person. He feels this is a moral obligation. He wants to lend support and try to instill confidence to those who have none.  Check it out  here:
