What is the Madagascar Service and Study Tour?
I have been accepted along with ninteen other students from my school to go to Nosy Be (Lemur Island), Madagascar and to study the biodiversity of this beautiful island off of Africa with the Madagascar Research and Conservation Institute (MRCI), and to teach Malagasy children the English language. The trip will be during the first three weeks of January of 2015. See this flyer for more information.
What do you wish to achieve during this trip?
By participating in the Madagascar trip, I wish to gain knowledge and develop more of an open-mind to the world I live in. I have never gone outside of the United States, and I have wondered what it could be like in another country, or another continent. I understand that not only is the environment drastically different, but so is the culture. I wish to be able to set a good example of who Americans are to the people in Madagascar and counter some of the negative American stereotypes. I also want to not only learn about what it is like in another country, but to represent my own local community there.
I really appreciate any help and am looking forward to my trip! Thank you!
