My nephew, Michael Drake, married a wonderful woman, Hannah Tigh. They have two incredible sons. Today, they lost the financial help they needed to get through a very difficult period in their lives.
Michael’s father, Tim Brigden, was diagnosed with Melanoma in late 2017 and shortly after diagnosis passed away. He didn’t have a will, life insurance, or directions for what he wanted in his death. He did have a bank account with just over $21,000. That money would have helped to pay the mortgage on Tim’s house so it didn’t go into a foreclosure. That money would be used to make the payments on Tim’s truck until Michael could sell it. That money could pay for Tim’s outstanding medical bills, including his last ambulance trip to the hospital before he died.
Tim passed in January 2018. Everyone gathered together in the funeral home full of stories of Tim and support for Michael. I remember being shocked at the number of people crowded into the funeral home. I live about 300 miles away from Michael and I worry a lot about whether he’ll be OK. With the support of his mom (my sister) and the rest of our family, I knew he would be, but when I saw the number of people in that funeral home, I thought “wow, everything is going to be OK. These people are really here for Michael.” I spoke to so many people that night. Everyone touting Michael’s courage, complimenting his amazing family, and offering support and encouragement. One of those people was Adam Kehoe. He was Tim’s best friend and had access to one of his bank accounts - the bank account with $21,000. He admitted he didn’t know Tim still had him listed on the account. He said he’d give Michael the money which Michael could use for the mortgage, the truck, and the medical bills. A man’s word. A man’s word is a powerful thing. We can trust a man’s word. And if we can’t, what do we have? After trusting Adam’s word, Michael and his family lost $21,319.25. This was the amount in the bank account that Adam said he didn’t even know about. Money that should have been Michael’s. Adam withdrew it on April 9, 2018. He told Michael there was no money in the account. A lie. He withdrew the money.
And now, I have to ask you for money. Money to help Michael and his family afford the lawyer that it will take to fight Adam Kehoe to get this money back to the rightful person. The lawyer Michael and his family need to hire will cost $250 per hour. Her first task to get the ball rolling will cost $750. There will be much to come after that. I ask that you please consider helping Michael and his family. They don’t deserve this treatment. No one does. Unfortunately there are bad people in this world with selfish motives who don’t care about those around them. Even when those around you are the child of your best friend.
I’ve never asked for money like this before. I wouldn’t ask if we didn’t really need it. Thank you for your time and consideration.
