Lung Transplant for Duane

In 2007, Duane was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), a terminal disease that causes permanent scarring in the lungs. There is no known cause for this disease, and most important, NO CURE. On average, without a transplant, the survival rate is only 22 months after diagnosis. Through God’s grace, Duane has beaten the odds and has valiantly battled the illness. However, the disease has reached END-STAGE AND HIS ONLY OPTION FOR SURVIVAL IS A LUNG TRANSPLANT.
Some of the primary symptoms of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis include weakness and shortness of breath. In Duane’s case, his shortness of breath is so severe that he requires supplemental oxygen 24-hours a day. He cannot walk, talk, or even sit without constantly coughing and gasping for air. Needless to say, the past few years have been extremely taxing for him and his beloved family.
After months of medical procedures and rigorous testing, Duane was finally approved to receive a lung transplant at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. INOVA is one of the top transplant centers in the country.
The total cost of his transplant and post-surgery expenses will exceed one million dollars.
Although insurance will cover a large portion (80%-90%), Duane, and his family could incur significant out-of-pocket costs of over $100,000. All donated funds will go directly to help Duane cover the costs of his:
- Insurance deductibles and copays
- Out-of-pocket expenses for rehabilitation
- Critical anti-rejection medications and prescriptions
- Other medical and caregiving costs
- Other potential costs that may arise during recovery
Duane is a deeply devoted and loving husband and father and has been disabled and unable to work for almost seven years. He is well loved and respected by everyone he’s worked with during a 27-year career as an award-wining TV Producer/Director. His fondest wish is to have the surgery and recover enough to work again to help support his family and spend more quality time with them.
So, during this challenging time, whatever support you can give to help him and his family is greatly appreciated! The financial costs and risks are overwhelming, but staying alive is worth the struggle!
