Kelly Williams' Family Fundraiser

I have set up this gofundme page for my close friend/cousin Marte and her precious family whose lives have been drastically changed over the past few months.

Last October her husband Kelly had a CT scan done due to some pretty severe back pain. The CT scan showed a large mass on his kidney. A few days later, another CT scan revealed other areas of concern that would require immediate hospitalization and surgery. The results of a biopsy showed Kelly was in stage three of an aggressive form of testicular cancer. He was also diagnosed with a secondary cancer called nephroblastoma or Wilms’ tumor (a type of kidney cancer that is rarely found in adults). Because of the rarity of Kelly’s diagnoses, his local oncologist referred him to MD Anderson.

For the last 4 months Kelly and Marte have been traveling back and forth every three weeks for Kelly to undergo chemo therapy treatments. The hope being with every visit that his tumor marker levels will come down to a normal level so the doctors can remove the cancer from his body. Unfortunately, last month-after a slow decline in tumor marker levels-his oncologist reviewed the case and decided Kelly would need to begin stem cell transplant therapy and undergo an even more aggressive chemotherapy.

Kelly and Marte remain faithful that one day he will be in remission but were disheartened to learn that they will have to stay in Houston for three to four months due to the extensive process of removing his stem cells, undergoing an extremely aggressive chemo treatment, and then having the healthy stem cells reintroduced into his body. During this time, Kelly will be in and out of the hospital, but will have to remain close-by for daily shots. They will have to find housing (which is not covered by insurance) for the times he will not be considered inpatient. The upcoming months will be very difficult for them both emotionally and financially.

Their vacation and sick days are long used up, but due to the uncontrollable circumstances surrounding them, they continue to have to take off work. And there will be no income during the months they will be in Houston, making it nearly impossible to pay for the everyday necessities needed to provide for their family: car and health insurance, groceries, fuel, utilities, etc. They are also responsible for a large annual deductible for their health insurance. 

Any money raised will be used to help them have a little less to worry about during the upcoming months of extensive treatment, surgery to remove the cancer, and the time it will take to recover. They have a long road ahead, so please continue to pray for strength, comfort, wisdom, and healing for this beautiful family.

Kelly and Marte truly appreciate every card, every meal, every dollar, and most importantly, every prayer. And they probably wouldn’t feel comfortable asking for any additional help even though the need is so great.
