If you know Sharon, you’re one of the lucky ones; you’ve most likely been shown love, humor and felt like you were part of her family- instantly. Sharon is probably someone who you’ve counted on for help and support. She’s a fantastic listener who always gives wonderful advice while somehow making you laugh. I’m fortunate to say I’ve known Sharon for the last 23 years and thankful to call her my second mom.
In October 2022, Sharon received the heartbreaking news of being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease, also known as ALS. Up until her diagnoses, she was working and spending time with her loved ones daily. This diagnosis completely changed her life and will only continue to do so further. Sharon has completely lost her independence as she now needs 24/7 care. She is wheelchair bound, meaning she will need her home to be made wheelchair accessible and can only go to locations with accessibility.
Chrissy, my best friend since the 4th grade, has made the difficult but right decision to leave a job she loved of 16 years to be the main care taker for her mom. She’s responsible for taking care of her at home-day and night, bringing her to Mass General for appointments and her latest challenge- trying to buy an accessible van.
No one should have to watch their mom suffer from this disease along with the bearing the financial burden of paying for medical bills, accessibility changes and ensuring a good quality of life.
My hope in fundraising for Sharon is that we can allow Sharon to enjoy her life throughout diagnosis along with making it easy for her family to afford the bills that they are and will continue to receive.
In behalf of the Billings family, we are so thankful for your prayers, support and generosity.
