June 29 2014 is the First ever Statue of Liberty open water swim and my mama (Barbara Addington) wants more than anything to be able to compete. I would love more than anything to bring her: she deserves SO much to go! It has been a horribly rough year for her following the death of her youngest son (Duncan seen below) from an accidental opiate overdose. As her daughter I would do absolutely anything to relieve some of her stress and do something nice for her so that she can have this wonderfully positive thing to focus on (training for the swim and getting excited for the trip) instead of being so sad and focusing on the 1 year anneversary of duncans death. I have felt so incredibly helpless not being able to fix her broken heart. She and I have never been to NYC together and that is because her job pays her just pennies compared to how great a job she does and how very very hard she works every single day- including every Christmas and birthday! She has been for a long time in a awful hopeless depression with nothing to look forward to: I have been saving every penny I can but still cannot afford to fly us out to NYC, stay in a hotel instead of a cardboard box and pay for her to enter the event. I would drive to save money but she cant get enough time off of work to make it there & back in time :( We will be SO very very thankful with all of our heart for any and all donations you can contribute. She truly truly deserves this trip SO much! We are very spending savvy and will stretch every dime as far as it will possibly go: we dont need luxury we just need a safe place to lay our heads and a few meager meals and we are happier than bugs in rugs! I dont have very long to raise this money because we need to know that we have enough money to take the trip before she can buy the event entrance ticket: so we are leaving it up to god and destiny and karma to see if there is any way we can get this to work. It is so hard and humbling to ask for help like this but if there is any possible way you can help, even a little bit, know that you are truly brightening up her heart SO very very much for this is her passion that keeps her going when life becomes too tough to take. I am escorting her to keep her safe & be her tour/travel guide and buddy and take the photos to witness her phenominal swimming skills. She has been so down as this anneversary approaches and I long SO badly to give her the good news that the kindness of friends and family has made the possibility of her dream a wish come true ! Duncan would be SO very very proud of her for soildering on, in the face of such hardship and heartbreak. Lets show her that there IS indeed SO much to live and love for ! Thank you ALL from the bottom of our hearts in advance for any help that you can give. Any amount is great, no help to small. I pray everyday that I can make this happen for her. I am just going to work as hard as I can to keep putting funds aside in hopes that I will be able to come through for her, and I will just have to wait and see what happens between now and then. Thank you everyone.
Take care and may this letter find you all very well. Happy summer and peace& love to you all. Sincerely, Constance Smith
