On Thursday May 29, 2014 Kim was in her beautiful backyard oasis which she had been creating for her sweet kids Sadie and Jonah, ages 5 and 1, building her kiddos a treehouse.

A treehouse? Why, yes! A treehouse. Every awesome mom builds their children a treehouse for goodness sake.

In an instant however, the project scence became that of a tragic accident when Kim fell approximately 6 ft and landed on her stomach. Right away, Kimthought, "Oh no, I must have broke my leg." Kim couldn't move much, but she could turn her head slightly to look over her shoulder. She did so. Her shoe? It was not turned in a direction Kim believed it possible to turn it. She reached for her pocket; relief - it contained her cell phone. Kim dialed 91, and put her face in the grass. Kim was in schock.

Kim quickly learned,as she laid in her own yard, that she had a compound fracture and a severely dislocated ankle. The bone had exited the skin, but it hadn't just exited the skin, it exited skin then impaled the muddy ground. Kim's bone and leg were covered in mud, bateria, and other microorganisms.

After arriving at the University of Wisconsin Hopsital, Kim learned she had two major breaks just above the ankle: both her tibula and fibula. 

The surgeons came in and sat at the end of her bed. They inquired and inquired in an attempt to understand where Kim was at with all the information received. Then, their faces drew solemn, their eyes dropped to their laps, and ther voices became a bit quieter. They told Kim, "I don't know if you know how serious this is. This is very, very, very serious. First of all, you have a 3 inch section of bone missing. We don't know what happened to it. Second, when your bone came through the skin, it impaled the muddy ground. It's wounded area is full of mud, which is full of all kinds of bacteria and microorganisms. In these cases, we often have to amputate."  Schocked by the word "amputate," a word yet to cross Kim' mind, Kim sobbed profusely.

Shortly thereafter, Kim entered her first surgery, the first of no fewer than 5.

Being a newly single mom, Kim will have needs that will need to be met both financially and supportively since she will be out of work. We want to help support her sweet family and take the worries, fears and "what ifs" away.
