Back to School

Dear friends,
After being a part of so many lives as a yoga teacher since 1998, as well as a doula / childbirth educator since 2005, I've noticed a trend in my focus and clarity in my passion. With clear eyes I see I am ready for more understanding and better preparations to bring back to my community. To this end, I've decided to return to school in the fall of 2014. Here is what I will be studying and the direction I intend to focus the future of my work.

From September through June 2015 I will attend the Bancroft School of Massage in Worcester, Ma in the advanced academic program. www.bancroftsmt.com I will be enrolled in classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday's from 8:30-5:00 with additional hours to intern my new skills as a massage therapist. I will complete studies in Swedish, Sports, and Shiatsu techniques, as well as preliminary training in prenatal massage. Bancroft is an accredited school with a 30 year history of strong anatomical and physiological technique training. It is the choice massage school for those in the bodywork field already such as myself.

This degree/license will permit me to study further advanced touch techniques which I will begin in the Fall of 2015.

During the 2015-16 year I intend to become a certified practicioner of Arvigo Therapy, also known as Mayan Belly Massage. www.arvigotherapy.com The education for Arvigo requires pockets of time away to learn from the masters and then clinical intern hours practicing my skills. Arvigo is a blend of all the skills and experiences I've been working with the past few years such as core health, the prenatal and postnatal body, herbs and apothicaries, ritual bathing, and systemic balance of the human machine. It has been my desire to enhance these skills and understandings for quite some time, but only since late 2013 could I see it becoming a reality. With this training I will be far more qualified to serve in a 360 degree view the woman's body from puberty through well past menopause.

During this time I also expect to hone my skills for the Core Health Workshops I’ve been successfully offering by studying with certain teachers in the U.S. whom I could not learn from presently without the license Bancroft will provide to me. It is very exciting to know I can finally sit with certain teachers I've dreamed of working with.

All together, when June 2016 rolls in I will hold within myself a far more complete view of the human body and many many more tools to bring it to health and peace at all stages of existence. This is the future of my career and the path I hoped for starting 11 years ago. My title will now be Licensed Massage and Arvigo Therapist, Yoga Teacher, Doula. SWEET!

Now, all of these dreams and plans require money and time. As we all know, they are one in the same in many areas of life. For me to enroll in school, setting back my portion of family contribution significantly. I need to withdraw from much of my current teaching schedule. Obviously, I of course need to pay for all this education as well.
But here are additional expenses I can forsee over the next 2 years:
1. Additional babysitting both in the morning to get my children off to school while I commute to Worcester. Then again in the afternoon when I am not home yet. 3 days a week X 9 months.
2. Gas - enough said
3. Travel expenses for the Arvigo training. The level 2 & 3 certifications are as close as New Hampshire and as far as Belize! I will be traveling to both in 2016.

On my own I have applied for and been awarded educational Stafford Loans. I am currently seeking a few scholarships both through Bancroft School and outside to help lower the overall cost of this year's schooling. But the total sum of this endevor is daunting. If my heart wasn't so passionate about it, my wallet would scream NO WAY! Here is where the idea of "crowd funding" was introduced to me through a friend by way of a simple suggestion. She said, "even if everyone you know gave only $1, you'd still have WAY more than you have now." She is is of course right.

So here I am at the end of my explanation and the doorway to my future. As a thank you for all the time you have spent reading this, and for being a part of my life which has led me to these career dreams, I promise you a spot on my massage table for free! Heck, I need to collect an accumulated thousand hours of practice before I can collect my degree/lisence in massage and Arvigo Therapy. Need some TLC? I'll be available!

As I say at the end of each yoga class, "May this practice serve us, and all whom we come in contact with today, for the highest good. May it bring us into our center, where we again find peace, balance, grace, and greatness."

I believe that statement is more true than ever before.
Thank You all,
Marissa
