Building a New Future

My friend Sudar*, a Tamil man who escaped persecution in his home country of Sri Lanka, has been kept in locked detention in Australia for over 9 years while his case has been fought, argued, refused, and appealed. 

NINE years.

His mother and sister who are safe in Tamil Nadu (India) have asked him for help in establishing a business which would provide an income for them, build their economic independence, and create a better future for his family. He remains imprisoned and is unable to help them financially, despite being here in Australia, the "lucky country". He has been denied the right to work for almost ten years, though he is still young and able bodied. 

Sudar has asked if I, and the people I know, can help his mother and sister to buy the equipment and supplies that they need to start a cooking business. They are able to cook food on the farm where they live, and have found someone who can help in delivering the food to a point of sale. 

Sudar believes that just over $2000 will enable them to get their business up and running, and hopes that once his battle to find safety is won he will be strong and will fight for the future of his family.
