Tom Toonder, aged 52 years, has terminal cancer. After years of fighting colon cancer, it has finally spread all over his abdomen and is causing a massive infection. As of May 31, 2014, he has been given days to live.
If he dies he will leave behind his wife, Sherry, along with their daughter, Abigail who is 7 years of age and their son Samuel, who is 5 years of age. They currently live in Grand Rapids, Michigan where Sherry is a caretaker at a mental health facility and the children will be in kindergarten and 3rd grade in the coming school year.
Tom and Sherry spent most of their marriage as missionaries to muslims in difficult middle eastern countries. While Tom has left his wife and children a beaitiful heritage of faithfulness, service and endurance, the monetary benefits for the widow and children of a missionary are not great(read none).
The goal here is simple: to raise enough money to help Sherry, Abigail and Samuel get through this impossible season and to get firmly established in their new way of life without their husband and father; and to cover medical expenses that their health insurance has not covered over the last few months and years.
