Brady's Vet Expenses

Donation protected
On Wednesday, March 30th Mark, Ann and their son were driving when they saw an injured dog alongside the road.  Being animal lovers they stopped to help.  They took him to their own vet who concluded that the injuries were not severe and would heal with rest within 2 weeks.  Having adopted from the AAF in the past they brought him to us, to see if we could help him heal.

At the AAF the dog was evaluated by our Director of Animal Care, who believed the injuries to be more extensive and had him immediately taken to our vet.  Once there x-rays showed that the dog, now named Brady, had 4 pelvic fractures.  He was also having difficulty breathing.  Our vet determined that he was in critical condition and needed to be seen by MedVet.

At MedVet evaluation showed that Brady had a fractured pelvis as well as a severely fractured ankle.  Both of these fractures would need to be repaired through surgery.  However before surgery they needed to get him stable.  He required a chest tap to help with his breathing and spent two days in an oxygen chamber to get ready for surgery.  The surgery was completed on Friday, April 1st.

Brady is currently on a long road to recovery. His recovery will take 6 weeks and will require complete cage rest.  Meaning that he is only allowed out of his kennel 4 times per day for no more than 15 minutes each time.  He is also required to wear a cone, except at meal times, for the duration of his recovery.  During recovery he must also have his ankle cast changed each week AND wear a boot.

As a no-kill shelter, when Brady entered our doors, it was clear what we had to do.  We had to do everything in our power to help this poor dog out.  And we will continue to do just that for Brady, and countless others just like him.  However, this journey has cost the AAF over $7,000 already, with more expenses to come during the recovery period.  The AAF relies on our wonderful donors to ensure we are able to provide this level of care to all of our pets.  That is why we must ask now, for your help.  Please consider a donation to support Brady and his recovery.  The Animal Adoption Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization, and your donation may be tax deductible.
