Hello. I am Sunya Folayan. I am a Sacred Social Activist.
I have been offered a grand opportunity and I need my entire “Village” to help me. I know this is short in time. Due to circumstances beyond my control, funds that I had planned on using are no longer available. But I have faith. I have faith that God is making a way, even as I write these words and I really need your help. I so appreciate all of you for whatever you can do.
What funds are for ~
I have been invited to be one of the presenters at the 14th Annual Diversity in Organizations,Communities and Nations [DOCN] conference in Vienna, Austria. I need to raise $4000 by July 1, 2014 to cover my major expenses.

The importance of this opportunity ~
Going to the DOCN conference will allow me to be the voice of so many women, children and men who have suffered, survived and died because of Domestic Violence [DV] – verbal, physical, psychological, and spiritual – and various mental impairments as a direct result of DV. In my presentation, I will share stories of how people who have been affected by DV, PTSD, and mental impairments have begun their healing process through creative gardening, quilting and conscious community building,using the principles of permaculture.
My Story -
For the past 30 years, I have been a strong passionate advocate and activist for the mental and physical well-being of the family with emphasis on women and children who suffer from the trauma of DV and mental impairment. As a sacred social activist, an expressive fiber artist, a licensed clinical therapist, and a researcher, it is an honor to stand with and work on behalf of women, families and men in the Charlotte Region and the global communty as we continue to courageously move forward toward living healthier lives in mind, body and spirit.
During my time as a clinical therapist, I counseled many people and found various forms of depression are major health issues among all groups of women. After further research, I found the affects of depression are further multiplied among African American women, women veterans and other marginalized women, due to various social, economical, psychological and spiritual imbalances. In recent years, my research is focused on how creative gardening, quilting and conscious community building can play an important role in the healing process of depression, PTSD, and other mental wellness issues that are a direct result of DV and life's circumstances.
“Through my personal and professional experiences, I have learned that when I am consciously engaged in working with the earth in terms of planting a food forest or my fiber arts like quilting or gathered in sacred circles, healing takes place on so many levels in my entire being – mind, body and spirit. This is what I want for the people and communities I live and work with. This is what I what for everyone."
